Meet the Locals
Take the time to call into the local Visitor Centres for a wealth of information and knowledge not only on the things to see and do, but also what makes the towns tick. Enjoy a beer in the local pubs, meet the characters the country is renowned for, ask the storekeeper for directions, they love a chat and don’t forget the local sporting clubs, where visitors are always welcome.

Recreation
Sport is the heart of most country towns; in Wildflower Country this is certainly the case. Call into the local sporting clubs, have a hit of golf (not quite the greens you may be used to – but still fun!), take time out for a swim at the local pool or just enjoy the wonderful parks and gardens. Great sporting facilities are available - from diving to shooting we have it all.

Murals
Many towns feature wonderful murals that depict the areas history, wildlife and culture. Many of these murals were developed as part of the Painted Roads Murals, a regional initiative, using local volunteer support. All of the murals have a story to tell – these are just a couple:

Federation Park Mural
Federation Park includes a mural that depicts the district’s agricultural heritage. This park also has a life size bronze statue of a draught horse and kelpie. The statues and mural are a lasting memorial to the animals that were essential in opening up the area in the early years.

Past and Present
Painted next to the tourist centre in Perenjori this mural depicts the district from the past to the present, the the changes in time is a great reminder seen during the past century.

Macpherson’s Rest
Portrays kangaroos resting in the heat of the day with the historical Macpherson Homestead in the background. This mural offers a glimpse at the harshness and beauty of the region.

Wildflower Farming
A number of properties have diversified into the cultivation of the unique flora from the area, with flowers being produced for the domestic and overseas markets.

Lakes & Coast
What an unusual mixture of water, from the freshwater lakes of the dryer country to the salt water lakes, with such unique colours and contrasts, to the rugged coastline, with some of the most beautiful unspoilt beaches to be found anywhere.

Fishing
The coast offers some of the best beach and ocean fishing in the west, fishing charters are available.

Diving
The reefs make an ideal area for diving, dive tours are available.

Picnicking
What better spot for a picnic than by the water, there are a large number of lakes that make great spots for picnicking, while spotting the local birds and rare flowers.

Swimming
Beautiful sheltered bays make for safe swimming on the coast. Remember to always check with tourist centres or the local shire regarding swimming in lakes and waterholes.

Windsurfing
Yes the west coast is sometimes windy, so why not make the most of it, have a go at windsurfing, or if you’re not that adventurous just enjoy the spectacle.

Relaxing
What could be more relaxing than a stroll along a deserted beach, sitting and watching the changing colours of the salt lakes as the sun sets, or having a rest by the side of a lake.
